Our Musical Legend Con Curtin passed away on April 25th 2009 at 82 years of age.
Con was born in Brosna in 1926 and spent his younger years as a Blacksmith. He decided to seek a better life for himself and emigrated to London where he worked as a Ganger for Murphy for 10 years, tunnelling beneath the streets of the city.
Con, his wife Ann and family bought “The Balloon” Bar in Chelsea, where many musicians from Ireland and beyond graced his door with their instruments to play at all hours of the day or night. He returned to Brosna in the mid-seventies where he opened another pub and had many a good session until he sold the licence in 2003.
The Festival in his name was established in 2001, and has been a permanent fixture ever since. Con loved his music and enjoyed the different musical talents that came to Brosna over the years.
